What does CH mean in catheters?
A Charrière (Ch or Charr) equals 0.33 mm and is abbreviated as Ch. or Char. If you want to determine the diameter in millimeters, divide the Charrière size by 3.
For men, a thickness of 16 to 18 Ch is usually chosen, for women 12 to 14 Ch, and for children 8 to 10 Ch. Due to the risk of injury from mucous membrane irritation in the urethra, a thickness that is too large should never be used.
